(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) CHELTENHAM (England)

Persian War retained his glace as top hurdler in the ritish Isles when he won the Champion Hurdle on Wednesday (or the third successive year. Only two other horses have achieved this feat.

Although Mr H. Alpers’s brilliant seven-year-old had not won a race in five previous outings this season, he had achieved some good performances and was backed down to 5/4 favourite for the event.

Taking the lead at the halfway stage in the two miles and 200 yards race, he ran on impressively to win by a length and a half from Major Rose.
