Motor Imports
Sir, —The news that the Government plans to allocate additional overseas funds for importing motor vehicles is to be welcomed. That this is to be at the expense of production of New Zealand’s first locally-designed car is appalling. The Anziel Nova, featuring advanced engineering concepts and design and envisaged to retail at a highly competitive price, is well on the way to becoming a worldbeater in its own right. Such a project deserves the utmost encouragement from the Government rather than the shabby about-face in policy of local content implied. Mr Gibbs would be justified in selling his revolutionary project to Australia. In a few years the Government will be glad to spend precious overseas funds in importing this admirable car.—Yours, B. W. GRANT. March 18, 1970.
