Minister In Saigon I (N Z P A Stat Correspondent * SAIGON, February 27. The New Zealand Minister of Defence (Mr Thomson) today received a first-hand report on the progress of the Vietnam war from senior Vietnamese and United States officers in Saigon. Soon after his arrival from Bangkok he had talks with General Cao Van Vien, Chief of the Joint General Staff, and General Creighton Abrams, of the United States forces in the war zone. Mr Thomson was accompanied by the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant-! General Sir Leonard Thornton, and they later called on the South Vietnamese Defence Minister (Nguven Van Vy). Tomorrow they will go 260 miles to Qui Nhon and Boag Son were the New Zealand civilians and services medical teams are based.
