LIFE-LINE CALLS
Threefold Increase More than three times as many calls were received by the Life-Line service run by the. Christchurch Methodis’t Central Mission in the three months to December 31, than were recorded in the corresponding period in the previous year. In her report presented to the quarterly meeting of the mission's board of management in Christchurch on Thursday evening, the liaison officer for Life-Line (Mrs N. Johnston) said that 764 calls were received in October, November and December last year, 565 more than in the same three months in 1968. The number of personal counselling calls also showed a steep increase. For the three months to Decembet.3l last year, 260 calls were received, compared with only 46 in the same period in the previous year. The new training programme for Life-Line helpers would begin on March 5 and refresher courses for accredited counsellors would be held throughout the year, she said. The annual Life-Line street appeal would be held on June 5.
