MR A. V. MOULTON

Mr A. V. Moulton, who died I this week in Christchurch, .spent almost a life time buying wool. He was a former president of the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association. In 1967 Mr Moulton retired as New Zealand director of Kreglinger (Australia) Proprietary, Ltd. Born at Petersham, a suburb of Sydney, Mr Moulton had first contact with wool when he worked on a sheep farm in New South Wales in 1917 at the age of 17. After a short period of service in the Army—he was just about ready to go oversea? when World War I ended—he joined a Sydney firm of wool sorters, Linklater and Bannister, and then after working in sheds he joined Kreglinger and Fen nau in 1920. A year later he was transferred to Melbourne on the buying side of the business, and in 1925 he came to New Zealand for what was said to be a six weeks’ term, but he . remained in Christchurch rising to the position of senior buyer and New Zealand director of the firm.

Tri 1938 Mr Moulton became a member of the committee of the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and with the exception of one year remained a member of the committee continuously until his retirement; He served as president and vice-president of the association on several occasions.

In 1939 Mr Moulton was a member of a committee which, with the Government, organised the commandeer of wool, and he acted as an appraiser in this period. For two years during the war he was on military service in the National Military Reserve and as a weapons instructor with the Air Force.
