COPTER CRASH

Pilot Safe (N.Z Press Association • GISBORNE. Feb. 25. A Gisborne helicopter pilot escaped serious injury this morning when the helicopter he was flying crashed on a hill near Riverside Road, three miles from Gisborne. Mr R. R. McCulloch, of Collins Street, had finished spray ing blackberry on Rimunui Station, in Riverside Road and was returning to Gisborne Airport when mechanical trouble developed and a forced landing became neces san. He attempted to land on the top of a ridge between Riverside Road and Fox Street but could not control the helicopter which bounced off the ridge and rolled down the hill. The machine, a three-year-old 47G5 hired from another helicopter firm by Whil-Wide Aviation. Ltd. was wrecked. Mr McCulloch was strapped to his seat and suffered only' a few cuts, bruises and a sprained ankle. He was taken to -hospital by ambulance, treated and discharged.
