Worthy Of Expo?
Sir,—l agree with R. Davis. Young boys of Nuku Smiler’s age should never be encouraged to enter such competitions for sheep-shearing. They are far too young to endure the hard training it takes. When I listened to him speaking over the air, and heard of the long arduous programme ahead of him, and the weariness in his voice, I wondered at the thoughtlessness of allowing one so young to undermine his strength in this way. Cheered on by his backers, and unwilling to let them down, how can he stand up to the strain? It is downright cruel.—Yours, etc.. TROUBLED, February 25, 1970.
