Petition On Counter
Petition forms from the New Zealand Forest and Bird Society seeking to prevent the raising of Lake Manapouri will be placed on its counter by the Riccarton Borough Council. The council decided this at its meeting this week when it also decided to have nothing to do with supporting the petition, the subject Of which it was agreed, had developed into a political football. Borough Inspection.—Members of the council will inspect the borough on April 4 and ratepayers will be invited to meet the councillors at suitable points on the tour. Road Reconstruction. A report on the reconstruction of Riccarton Road will be prepared by the works committee which will afterwards be presented to the council for a policy decision regarding the method of recon-struction-piecemeal or in its entirity—and the way the work will be financed.
