BALLOTING POLICY

No Brackets At Washdyke The Timaru Trotting Club had a policy whereby it deleted brackets where possible in the event of balloting or eliminating in feature races, said the secretary of the club (Mr C. F. McKenzie) yesterday. He was commenting on the fact that a form runner, Frenchelle, had been eliminated, while * another form candidate, his stablemate. New Law, was left in the field. Both horses race by different owners, although their trainer, F. E. Newfield, is part-owner of New Law. Two other brackets were broken by the selection committee when 16 horses failed to secure a start in the Timaru Nursery Stakes. “It is extremely difficult for the selection committee to meet the wishes of everyone,” said Mr McKenzie. ’ They tried to give as many trainers as possible representation in the race. Perhaps this reacts unfairly to an odd owner, but I the club tries to do its best t for everybody.” , Frenchelle’s trainer has a * high opinion of the youngster I and feels that his claim to inclusion in the .Timaru field , was stronger than that of quite a number to have survived the - ballot. Had Frenchelle 1 remained at Winton with his 3 owner. R. M. Hamilton, who trained him earlier in his ’ career, he would have no doubt I been included in the field on the strength of a placing last - month at Addington Raceway.
