Five Concerts Of Beethoven
A festival of five concerts by the Czech Quartet and the Christchurch pianist, Maurice Till, has been planned by the department of extension studies and School of Music at the University of Canterbury to celebrate the Beethoven bicentenary in April. A wide-ranging selection oi piano and chamber works by Beethoven has been made fot the concerts, which will be held in the University Hall Worcester Street, on April 8' 11. 22, 25 and 29. Preferential bookings foi the series have been open since last week, and countei booking for season ticket* will open on March 4. Book ings for individual concerts will be available from March 18. Maurice Till will appear by himself in the first concert which will feature three piano sonatas—D major Opus 10, No. 3: F minor Opus 57, “Appassionata:” anc C minor, Opus 111. Rudolph Kalup (violin) anc Zdenek Konicek (cello) wil join Mr Till in the seconc concert, to play the Celle Sonata in C, Op. 102, Violit Sonata in F, Op. 24, “Spring,’
->and Piano Trio in D, Opus 70, |,|“The Ghost.” Mr Till will not appear in • the third concert, which will e feature three string quartets: y but in the fourth concert he J will join Mr Konicek, with ‘ Stefan Czapary (violin) and Jaroslav Karlovsky (viola) to -iplay the String Trio No. 3, 0 Op. 9, Violin Sonata in A, Op. 47, the “Kreutzer,” and the " Piano Trio in B Flat, Op. 97, “Archduke.” The quartet will have the “ final concert to itself, and y [will play the “Harp” Quartet, ir ‘Op. 74;. and String Quartet, e Op. 130, with Gresse Fugue, *’iOp. 133. *>: All the concerts will begin at 8.15 p.m. ir
