r pODAY, the member of * Parliament for Lyttelton, Mr T. M. McGuigan, will open the Sumner Tennis and Squash Club’s squash court in Heberden Avenue. Built at a cost of $B3OO, the building, which comprises men’s and women’s changing rooms with

showers, viewing gallery and one squash court, wull give the club facilities equal to any in the South Island. Although one tennis court was sacrificed to build the squash court on, there are still four hard courts left, two of which can be floodlit for night play. Eventually it is hoped to build a pavilion the length of the new building overlooking the tennis courts, as the present tennis pavilion is nearing the end of its useful life.

At present the membership of the squash section of the club is 89. It is considered that the maximum membership for the one court will be 110.
