$3000 ART AWARD

Finalists Announced (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 13. Eric Westbrook, judge of the 1970 Benson and Hedges Art Award, today announced the semi-finalists and finalists competing for the $3OOO first prize. The winner will be announced on Sunday night. The finalists are:— “Final Summer Signal 3,” Ted Bracey (Cambridge); “Landscape LV,” Susan Chaytor (Blenheim); “The Headland,” Patrick Hanly (Auckland); “Woman and Mirrors,” lan North (Palmerston North); “Urban Sprawl,” Alvin Pankhurst (Wellington); “Road to the Quarry,” Charles Tole (Auckland); “Abandoned Settlement,” Brent Wong (Wellington). Among the semi-finalists was Philip Spencer Trusttum, of Christchurch with his entry “Baroque Chair.”

Coffee Price. Leading manufacturers of instant coffee in Auckland and Dunedin said yesterday that there was no intention of raising their prices in the meantime. Raw beans were constantly increasing in price but they made every effort to absorb these rises.—(P.A.)
