Timaru Girls Fill Places
A Captain Cook bicentenary ; essay and map competition i for third-form high school I pupils run by the Canterbury ; branch of the New Zealand I Geographical Society has I been won by Helen Bennett, lof the Timaru Girls’ High (School. Another Timaru Girls’ High School pupil, Robyn >Don, was second. More than 100 entries were (received in the mapping com(petition to show the route of Cook’s voyage round the i coast of New Zealand, and each contestant had to write a short essay on the aptness of Cook’s names for New Zealand places. Commenting on the winning entry, the judge (Mr B. R. Pearse) said it contained i well-presented material disI cussed with some originality (and in a thoughtful manner. [ The prizes were nock vouchers for $8 (first) and $2 (second).
