MEAT EXPORTS SET RECORD
(New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, February 10. New Zealand’s meat exports during 1960 amounted to a record 670,441 tons, according to figures issued today by the Meat Producers’ Board.
This is 53,318 tons, or 9 per cent more than the previous year’s record exports of 617,123 tons Beef and veal exports showed the greatest increase —a record 158,386 tons This figure was 30,544 tons, or 24 per cent more than exports during 1968. New Zealand’s exports of mutton also showed an appre ciable increase. Exports • for 1969 were 124,175 tons, an increase of 12,118 tons, or 11 per cent, over mutton exports for 1968. New Zealand’s exports of lamb for. 1969 amounted to 329,355 tons, an increase of 6223 tons over the 1968 figure.
New Zealand meat export receipts for 1969, but not necessarily for meat shipped during that period, were a record $369,331,000. This figure
is $72,115,000, or 24 per cent higher than receipts for 1968. Export meat production for October, November and December, the first three months of the present season totalled 173,297 tons an increase of 16,705 tons or 11 per cent over the same period of the 1968 69 season.
Mutton production for the three months amounted to 27,298 tons, an increase of 14,879 tons over the same period of the previous season During the first three months of this season beef and veal production totalled 28,055 tons, an increase of 8247 tons, or 42 per cent over the production for the same period of the previous season.
