EIGHT DAYS LEFT TO PAY RATES

Heathcote county ratepayers are proving to be the promptest payers in the Christchurch area. By yesterday 59 per cent in Heathcote had paid their rates, compared with 41 per cent in the city. Only six days are left open by local body offices to receive rates before the late payment penalty is imposed.

In the Riccarton borough,; 53.68 per cent of ratepayers: had paid, well up on the figure for the comparative day last year. About 42 per cent of the ratepayers in Lyttelton borough had paid, but the Town Clerk (Mr J. Thompson), said that Lyttelton people “always leave it to the last three days.
