ST ALBANS IN FIRM CONTROL

Riccarton made a good effort to catch St Albans’ big score, but it was not nearly good enough, and G. R. McAulay called the batsmen in when nine were down and the deficit 92, in the hope of being set a reachable target. But in the end, Riccarton was again on the defensive. G. T. Barrett batted with typical aplomb in making 61 and there were good innings from P. A. Stubbings and B. P. Isherwood. P. M. Fazakarley, an improving left-hand spinner, took four more wickets. There was a great show of enterprise when St Albans batted against two slow bowlers but the task of scoring 179 in 94 minutes was too steep. Riccarton, in a few abandoned moments, lost four wickets for eight, and it was left to Isherwood, F. Madrussan and McAulay to see the day out, and that was done without much difficulty. The umpires were Messrs F. Goodall and D. J. Lee.
