Gallop Scores 132 For Sydenham

The prospect of an interest-; Ing finish to the game at Sydenham Park between Sydenham and Old Collegians on Saturday; never eventuated, as bad light s stopped play at 4.20 p.m. and’ play was finally abandoned at! 5 p.m. The day however produced a very meritorious century by I D. C. Gallop, who carried his, score to 132. After reaching three figures he attacked the bowling of J. H. M. Dawson and T. D. Gibson. When he was finally dismissed Sydenham had the impressive lead of 122 and looked set to enforce an outright win. The best of the Collegians bowlers was Dawson, who showed his return to form on the first day was no fluke. He bowled with plenty of venom, taking the last four Sydenham wickets for only 25 runs. R. W. Fuller and M. G. Les-1 ter set out to wipe out the deficit and after only five overs had 40 on the board, j While the scoring rate did not continue at that pace the’ pair carried the score to 101 before the first wicket fell. Both players hit anything loose very hard and it was only the accurate bowling of Gallop and B. A. Salt which prevented the scoring rate from being in excess of a run a minute. The situation of 101 without loss deteriorated to 1261 for 5 before H. J. Taylor and] J. W. Gebbie came together ini a partnership of 55. Taylor: batted confidently through the> on side and Gebbie used his feet well to the all-spin attack. Gallop varied his flight andi line cleverly and was well supported by Salt, who, al-, though only turning the ball fractionally, bowled his drifter intelligently. Umpires: Mesrs L. C. Johnston and L.
