POLITICAL REVENGE

I Czech Expects Trials (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—-Copyright) PARIS, February 7. A senior Czechoslovak diplomat said yesterday that he would not return to Prague because “political revenge” trials were about to start. He is Mr Ivo Fleischmann, who was reported last week to have resigned as Cultural Counsellor at the Czechoslovak Embassy in Paris and decided to stay in France. In an interview with the evening newspaper, “France Soir,” Mr Fleischmann said that he had written to the Czechoslovak Communist Party leader, Mr Gustav Husak, saying that even after the intervention of the Soviet Union in Czechoslovakia he had hoped Mr Husak and the party could prevent “the vengeance of reactionary forces.” “This hope has been dashed,” his letter said, according to “France Soir.” “The supporters of revenge have won and political trials are at our door.”
