Tourists Catered For At Satellite Station
fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. The Post Office will cater for tourists at the satellite earth station now being built at Warkworth, according to a statement issued today. A picnic area and observation gallery are planned in the station itself. Visitors will be able to view station equipment and the antenna tower, which will be 130 feet high. The antenna
will have a diameter of 100 feet. The station will be sited a quarter mile from State Highway 1 about three miles south of Warkworth and will be easily visible to passing traffic. The $5.16m station is expected to be in use next year. Working to a satellite in the Pacific—lntelsat 111 —the station will provide telephone and telegraph circuits overseas and will enable the exchange of live television programmes.
