Cycle Shed Destroyed
One.third of a 40ft wooden bicycle shed at the Shirley Intermediate School was destroyed in a fire at 6.57 p.m. -yesterday. When firemen arrived the shed was well alight. As they fought to bring it under control traffic banked up for more than a quarter of a mile on Marshland Road and Shirley Road. Hundreds of school children flocked to the school grounds to watch. The shed is surrounded on three sides by classroom blocks. Adjacent to the end of the shed is an incinerator and a rubbish collection area which has a low concrete block surround.
