TIE WITH CHINA
Indonesian Overture
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, February 5. Indonesia is hoping to resume diplomatic relations with China, and has made an approach through China’s diplomatic missions in Paris and The Hague. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Indonesian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee yesterday, at which the Foreign Minister (Mr Adam Malik) said, that Djakarta was prepared to resume relations with Peking on condition that China stopped subversive activities in Indonesia and refrained from any interfer-
ence in her internal affairs. Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China were suspended two years ago after the abortive 1965 Communist coup in Indonesia, whose Government recognises Peking as the legal Government of the Chinese! people, but maintains trade relations with Taiwan. The Indonesian Minister of. Finance (Dr Ali Wardana)! told Parliament today that Indonesia was pursuing a policy of non-alignment: aimed at reducing tension in the world.
