PLEA FOR AID TO FOREIGN STUDENTS IN BRlTAlN.—Speakers at a meeting held in Central Hall, London, to protest against the policy of the Department of Education and Science of charging foreign students in full for their accommodation in university hostels. A proposal was made by Mr W. van Straubenzee, the Conservative member of Parliament for Woking, that a subsidy of foreign students* fees in college hostels should be charged to Britain’s overseas aid programme. The speakers are, from left. Mr D. Steel, a Liberal member of Parliament; Mr van Straubenzee; Mr J. Straw, president of the National Union of Students; and Mr F. Judd, Labour member of Parliament for Portsmouth.
