FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone extends across northern New Zealand; a strong westerly airstream flows on to the far south of the country. Forecast: Canterbury. North-westerlies, often strong in exposed places, spreading to the coast at times; mainly fine and warm but with variable cloud and some showers in the Alps. - Marlborough Sounds.—North-westerlies, often strong and gusty; partly cloudy; mild. Southern Marlborough.—North-wester-lies, often strong and gusty in exposed places; fine and very warm. ' . Nelson,—South-westerlies fresh at times; mainly fine and warm; possibly a few showers on the western ranges. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; mainly overcast and mild; periods of rain in the south; a few showers spreading at times to areas north of Hokitika.
