Delays Granted

Postponement of annual camp training for one year was recommended by the No. 14 Military Postponement Committee when it heard an application yesterday by G. M. Crum, a company manager, of Ashburton.

The applicant said that he Was the only person available who was capable of carrying on the managerial side of the business of Ray Crum, Ltd, brick and block-layers, since the death of his father in November. It was a complex business which required considerable construction experience and managerial ability.

He said that it he were required to attend even a weekend camp it would cause considerable worry and financial loss to the business. The company was constructing the new Ashburton College and several smaller housing and commercial contracts. R. G. Chapman, a hospital board laboratory worker, had his basic training postponed sine die while he continues his course of hospital training. Postponement for one year was allowed G. S. journed sine die. An application by R. K. Broughton, a poultry farm manager, for postponement on the ground of his father’s ill-health was adjourned until the next meeting of the committee for the production of a medical certificate. Postponement of training until after December, 1970, was granted W. J. Sutherland, a company manager, and an application by M. P. Williams, a clerk, for postponement of annual camp training was dismissed. . , Training was postponed for one year for W. J. Barrow, a wool commission agent. The chairman said that the committee could see no reason for further postponement. The following applications made in respect of 14 weeks basic training were adjourned sine die, with the grounds in partenthesis: W. D. Hammond, J. F. Hobson, A. H. Knight, G. E. Sutton, L. R. Carter, B. A. Thompson, B. V. McKay (dependents), P. Ritchie (student), N. J. Bills (fire brigadesman), R. J. Kerr (policeman). The committee comprised Mr j. R. Williams (chairman). Messrs N. A. McNab and H. F. Larsen (members), Mr W. J. Moore (Crown representative), and Mr D. Palcnski (secretary).
