NARROW WIN

Tail-Enders To Rescue f.V Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) SYDNEY. The touring New Zealand Universities cricket team beat Sydney University by 20 runs on the first innings yesterday. New Zealand was all out for 211 in reply to Sydney’s 191, and with only two hours left, both sides decided not to play a second innings. The tourists’ opening batsmen, M. Parker, after a fine partnership of 67 with I. Walter, held the side together when four of the five middleorder batsmen failed and made a combined tally of only 17 runs.

At tea, New Zealand had lost six wickets and was still 54 runs behind, but the tailenders, J. Freeman, C. Kirk and C. Morris added a total of 50 runs, and put New Zealand ahead.
