PATHOLOGY SERVICES
New Testing Procedures The pathology services of the North Canterbury Hospital Board were at present in a stage of rapid development, and several new testing procedures would be introduced, Dr P. B. Booth said in Christchurch yesterday. Dr Booth, a specialist in blood serology, has been appointed head of the Blood Transfusion Service. He will be in charge of all aspects of blood usage.
Dr Booth, who spoke highly of the efficiency and effectiveness of the service, said automatic testing of blood samples, and tissue compatibility testing for organ transplants, were two of the developments which I would be introduced into the I pathology department at the hospital. Both Dr Booth and his wife, who is a haemotologist, have just completed seven years in New Guinea. They qualified and practised in London before accepting their posts in New Guinea. Mrs Booth developed the pathology services for the Department of Public Health in New Guinea, and Dr Booth worked for the Red Cross, setting up a blood transfusion service for the whole of the country.
