Ballet Dancers Begin Year’s Activities
Dancers of the New Zealand Ballet began their 1970 activities this week as planned, under the direction of the trust’s newly appointed ballet master, Mr J. Callander.
All the dancers engaged by the trust were with the company last year with the exception of William Pepper, a former member of the Australian Ballet who will arrive In Wellington on Sunday. The dancers include Misses Jan Blanch, Jenny Carson and Patricia Smith (New Plymouth) who are all graduates of the national school, Jill Morice (Wellington) who
first joined the company in 1965, Pauline Tronson (Auckland) and Pamela Buckman. Male dancers so far engaged by the Trust Board are Ron, Deschamps, whose association with the company began in 1965, and Peter Edwards, of Wanganui, who is a student in training. The training period is designed to bring the dancers to peak form before their departure for Expo 70 in July. The company will give performances in Wellington before it leaves for Japan and it will apepar in Auckland on its return.
