Surf Board Ban

Sir,—lt is to be hoped the council accedes to the Sumner residents’ reasonable request for aU or portion of this lovely beach to be reserved for bathers, particularly children, which has been denied them so long through sewage pollution. The surfers monopolise the parking on the Esplanade from Cave Rock to Scarborough. They also occupy the grass plots and openly dress and undress on the roadside in full view of residents and motorists. They are no asset to Sumner. —Yours, etc., BEAR BEHIND. January 30, 1970.
