a back-stroke finalist at the Tokyo Olympic Games. He also won four gold medals at the 1966 Jamaican Commonwealth Games, and held the world records for 440 yards individual medley and 220 yards back-stroke before the change-over to metric distances. However, a heavy surf may not assist him as much as the Canterbury swimmers, B. Ward and J. Moses. Although the Canterbury team has done little training together for the team’s events, the majority of its members are from the Taylor's Mistake club and should have a ready combination. SOFTBALL TOUR The Arizona All-Stars softball team has arrived at Auckland to start its tour of New Zealand. It will begin with games against Counties and Auckland today and tomorrow will play Waikato and then New Zealand in the first test, at Hamilton.
The team will play one or two games almost every day for two weeks, the highlights being matches against Hutt Valley, Wellington, New Zealand Colts and New Zealand at Wellington next week-end, the third test at Christchurch, and two final tests at Auckland.—N.Z.P.A. FIRST DEFEAT The Geelong College (Melbourne) cricket team suffered its first loss of a six-game New Zealand tour when it was beaten by eight wickets by the St Andrew’s College First XI at St Andrew’s College yesterday. Scores: Geelong 120 (P. McEwan 4/24, D. Livesey 4/39) and 105 (McEwan 4/42), St Andrew's 164 (G. Marshall 36, Livesey 31; McGillivray 7/82) and 66/2 (R. Wilson 23 not out.)
