Woman Rider Retires

Barbara Jo Rubin, who tried Io become America’s first female jockey, announced yesterday she was retiring because of trouble with her legs, United Press International reported. Miss Rubin, aged 20, said her knees had been weak since she had polio as a child, and "they are really acting up now." The pretty brunette tried to become the first female jockey about a year ago. but was beaten by Miss Diane Crump, who raced on a major track before her.
Rut Miss Rubin got one first — the first woman to win on a major track. She rode 89 times last year, winning 22 times, with 20 places.
