Natural Gas Car Trials
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, January 29. Trials with a natural gas car fuel have been so successful in eliminating pollution that plans are under way to convert as many as 1000 United States Government cars to the new system by the end of the v year. In testimony'prepared for a Senate sub-committee hearing, the head of General Services Administration (Mr Robert Kunzig) said that 12 cars already used the new, low-emission fuel, and 70 more would be converted in the next two months. The G.S.A. experiment was begun last October at a Government motor pool in Los Angeles. The converters cost SUS34O to install in each vehicle, and take about four hours to attach. The G.S.A. says that natural gas cars give about 50 per cent better mileage than ordinary vehicles, but require two tanks of fuel to go eight miles.
