Mail Closing Times
Sir,—Why it when an air mail letter to Mosgiel is posted in New Brighton at 10.30 a.m. on a Friday, it does not reach Its destination until Monday? I write this letter weekly, and in order for it to arrive on the day following the posting, I must take it myself to the main Post Office. Even when I post this letter to catch the 5 p.m. closing, it reaches Mosgiel the following day, so why can the 10.30 a.m; closing in New Brighton not connect with either the noon clearance, or at least the 5 p.m. one.— Yours, etc., I. CAMPBELL. January 23, 197 G
[The Chief Postmaster (Mr M. T. Reedy) replies: “An airmail letter posted at the New Brighton Post Office up to one o'clock would connect with the 5 p.m. airmail dispatch to Dunedin and would be delivered in Mosgiel the following morning. If the writer cares to submit the cover of any letter which appears to have been subject to delay we will be happy to have the matter investigated.”]
