Blenheim Again The Sunniest Centre
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 28. With 2528 hours of sunshine, Blenheim was the sunniest town in New Zealand in 1969, the Weather Office said today.
Two other recording stations, Mount John and Riwaka, registered more than 2500 hours, but Blenheim won by nine hours. Blenheim has held the record for sunshine hours 14 times in the last 20 years. The Haast was the only area where a rainfall of more than lOOin was recorded. Rain fell on 181 days and a total of 139.97 in was recorded. Hokitika aerodrome bad the most rain days (188), which produced 97.59 in of rain. It was closely followed by Kaitaia aerodrome, with 186 rain days and 65.77 in of rain. The driest place in the
country was Oamaru, with 13.47 in on 78 days. Alexandra was next, with 13.80 in on 107 days. Timaru recorded 14.26 in on 96 days and Christchurch had 14.92 in on 98 days. Rainfall in the other three main centres was: Auckland, 44.58 in on 173 days; Wellington, 36.76 in on 137 days; and Dunedin, 29.61 in on 157 days.
