Women’s Softball Uninspiring
The leading senior women’s softball teams. Monowal A and Christchurch West, which will both contest the opening round of the New Zealand Inter-club Dustin Cup championship at Blenheim next week-end, did not receive the competition they probably wished for when they had easy wins over Monowal B on Saturday. These were the first games played since the holiday recess and the softball seen was uninspiring. MONOWAI A 13, MONOWAI B 3 Monowai A had complete control at all times in Its game with Monowal B and scored runs at regular Intervals. The team's best batting rallies were in the third and sixth innings, when three run, and five runs were scored respectively. J. Moher was the most prominent batter for Monowal A. with four safe hits from as many excursions to the batter's box. B. Turbott and M. Eaton also batted well. R. Thomas opened Monowal B's scoring in the second Innings with a run on errors. L. Leask got a good threebase hit in her team's fourth innings to score Thomas and L. Bailey. CHRISTCHURCH WEST », MONOWAI B 2 Poor fielding by Monowai B allowed Christchurch West to take an unassailable six-run lead at Its first turn to bat. However, Monowal B managed to tighten Its Infield handllng from this point and kept
its opponent scoreless until the sixth Innings, when a threebase hit by A. Borlase brought In two runs.
A. Phillips, whose fielding was always consistent, opened Monowai B's account in the fifth Innings when she got a two-base hit, stole third base ?, n <>, scored on a sacrifice by V. Closey.
