Mile To Mamie

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. Marnle, a close relation of the brilliant Mannlx, won the Anniversary Handicap In the hands of the Taranaki apprentice, J. Welker, at Trentham on Saturday. Messrs H. and P. McCarvill’s Test Case —Bridie filly sped through a wide gap to get in the deciding stride just when South Islanders were about to hail Gay Doctor as their only winner for the day. Gay Doctor got slightly the better of a tussle with Honey Belle near the furlong, and looked as if he might just last it out, but the South Canterburyowned and trained Jekyll gelding found Mamie’s late dab irresistible. Honey Belle was third, threequarters of a length back. Anticipation and Tomray were the best of the others. Shipmaster was a plodding seventh. “He was just plodding going to the last furlong,” commented his rider, G. W. Mein. Pell Mell, in his attempt to win the race for the third time, was a somewhat disappointing eighth.
