RECORD LIFT

The New Zealand middleweight Olympic-style champion, A. Ebert, of Christchurch, last night broke both the New Zealand and the Commonwealth weightlifting press record with a lift of 2901 b at a try-out at the Canterbury Weightlifting Association’s gymnasium.

Ebert broke the Commonwealth record for the press, formerly held by the Welsh middle-weight, H. Johnston by 41b Boz. He also broke the New Zealand press rerecord by 201 b.

Ebert went on to press 3001 b above his head, but the lift was disallowed when he lost it overhead.
