NIXON TO REPLY
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Dec. 8. President Nixon faces public interrogation tonight on alleged United States atrocities in Vietnam and other controversial issues when he holds his first press conference for more than two months. White House sources said that Mr Nixon would have no prepared statement for the conference, which was being screened on nation-wide television at a peak evening viewing time. Since the Presdent’s last major public statement on Vietnam on November 3, there have been three main developments which might have a bearing on his Vietnam policy:
The November 15 demonstra- ' tion which drew 260,000 people to the capital in a njass protest against the war. The resignation of the chief United States negotiator at the Paris peace talks, Mr Henry Cabot Lodge. The uncovering of the alleged My Lai massacre and army charges that Lieutenant William Calley killed 109 civilians in the incident.
