VOTES CAST IN LONDON

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, Nov. 11.

The first votes in New Zealand’s General Election were cast today. About 80 New Zealanders completed their ballot papers at New Zealand House when voting j opened. The returning officer, Mr i B. Finney, described the first j day as “quite heavy.” “This ismore than usual, but i we think it is because a couple of ships are due to sail for New Zealand soon,” he said. Five other ships are on their way to New Zealand and passengers in three of them will vote at sea. A passenger in each has been appointed returning officer. There are about 300 voters in the Ellinis, 80 in the Oriana and 60 in the Orsova. There are fewer in the Northern Star and another ship and these voters will vote when the ships call at Australia.
