DISTURBED CHILDREN

Street Appeal Tomorrow A Disturbed Children’s Aid Movement will hold a street appeal tomorrow to raise money for a holiday camp for disturbed children and for a social worker trust fund, The movement’s president (Mrs E. J. Price) said yesterday that the appeal target was $3OOO aryl about 300 persons would , collect in the city and suburbs. Another 100 collectors were urgently required, because many of the school pupils could collect up to only 9 a.m. The appeal is the first to be held by the movement. Previous activities had been financed greatly by the money raised by students in the 1967 Capping Week campaign.

Mrs Price said that the first holiday camp for children attending the child health clinic and the adjustment class had been very successful. This’ type of holiday camp programme required development and expansion to supplement the meagre services being provided by the Government, she said. Lack of finance had prohibited the movement from appointing a trained social worker to assist with the families of children coming to the movement’s notice, she said. The movement was experiencing difficulty in gaining recognition by Government departments and other agencies handling children.
