When the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) was inviting his audience to meet local Labour Party candidates, an Interjector called out, “Why don’t you meet Mr Muldoon?” “A-ah, I have heard of that challenge. He wants to meet me in a debate on television. Well, while I want to be Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon wants to be the Government (laughter). “I will meet Mr Holyoake
any time he likes. He is the leader of their party. Mr Muldoon said in Auckland in April that he would like to see me with Mr Holyoake on television as often as possible, because I made Mr Holyoake look the better man. “Mr Muldoon has only to make the arrangement I am willing to meet Mr Holyoake on TV—as I did a fortnight ago at the university,” he said.
