Walter Peak Scheme
Sir,—The anger of the millionaire, Mr G. H. Wiles, at the delay in getting his project started at Lake Wakatipu is understandable. But does Mr Wiles appreciate the anger and alarm of New Zealanders who see his exploitation of Crown lease land as setting a far-reaching precedent? This case, and another case at Te Anau where Crown land has been sold to allow exploitation of outdoor recreation, could well be setting the pattern for future years, where New Zealanders will have to pay for access to get their outdoor recreation.— Yours, etc., F.O. November 11, 1969.
