R.S.A. Clubrooms The executive of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association last evening approved a number of recommendations for the refurbishing of the the older part of its premises apart from the Jellicoe Hall. This would be done, said Mr K Humphries, the chairman of the committee which made the recommendations, to bring the older part up to a standard comparable with the extensions to the clubrooms. The work is expected to begin early next year. The extensions will be opened by the president (Mr J. Green) on December 6. Staff Shortage The Christchurch Transport Board was feeling the effects of an acute shortage of staff in New Zealand, the chairman of the works and traffic committee (Mr P. D Dunbar) said at a meeting of the board yesterday. The board now had to advertise for traffic staff. “A great deal of this labour movement is brought about by the state of overemployment and the benefits which are being offered by various firms to gain staff,” I he said. He expected a reasonable response from a re- , cruitment programme now in ‘ progress. $llOO B.A. J University fees in New South Wales will be increased : 20 per cent next year, at the : direction of the State Government The “Australian” re- 1 ports that the cost of a threeyear arts course will rise 1 from about $930 to more than 1 $llOO, and a six-year medi-1 cine course from about $l9OO ' to nearly $2300. The New South Wales Government has 1 told the five New South Wales ' universities that they must 1 raise their fees 20 per cent ' if they, are to get the full ' State and Commonwealth grants allocated to them for the next triennium.
