Antarctic Flights

Operation Ice Cube Four will begin today. This is the code name for the three annual supply flights which will be made from Christchurch to the Antarctic by a Hercules of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Three crews will be used. The Hercules will leave for the Antarctic at 9 a.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday and return at 2 a.m. each succeeding day. Squadron Leader M. Hodge, of Auckland, will be in charge of the flights. The first R.N.Z.A.F. Hercules flight to the Antarctic was on October 26,1965, commanded by Wing Commander B. A. Wood, now commanding officer of the Flying Training Wing at Wigram.
