New Industry Forecast

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The Government envisaged the establishment of a carded sliver and wool topmaking industry capable of earning large amounts of overseas exchange, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said in Parliament tonight. He was speaking during debate on the Finance Bill, which permits the Government to invest in an investigating company into the industry. He said New Zealand exports of wool tops had risen from $286 in 1965-68 to $270,000 in 1968-69. "This increase is commendable, but the Government has in mind a much larger operation, which could earn very large amounts of overseas exchange,” he said.
