Ben Lomond Impresses
“The Press” Special Service MELBOURNE. The New Zealand galloper, Ben Lomond, ran an easy mile at Mentone yesterday in his final trial for tomorrow’s weight-for-age event, the $30,000 W. S. Cox Plate. Ben Lomond strode over the distance in Imin 52Jsec, the last three in 40sec. His stablemate, Sir Trutone, covered the same distance in Imin 54}sec, the final three tn 41sec. Sir Trutone is likely to run in the mile Phoenix Cup at Moonee Valley on Saturday. The New Zealand pair galloped on the course proper against the rails. The going was good. At Flemington, the stablemates, Daryl’s Joy and HamuA, both of which will run on Saturday, Worked over a mile on the steeple grass 20 feet out. The New Zealand pair, with Hamua on the outside, galloped the distance in Imin 51&ec, the last two In 25}sec. Daryl’s Joy will clash with Ben Lomond in the Cox Plate. Hamua is to run in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup (13f.).
