IDYLL SHOW RUNS BRILLIANT TRIAL

“The Press** Special Service WELLINGTON. Fast times were commonplace at Trentham’s final trials yesterday, but two were brilliant One was run by a winner, the other by a problem horse. The winner was the two-year-old, Idyll Show, which broke a minute for five furlongs and ran an amazing four furlongs. The other was Greenstone, which ran a most impressive mile in spite of the failures he has recently recorded.

The pegs were 70 feet out on the course proper, which was fast. A strong wind blew most of the morning. The wind, however, was probably no help to Idyll Show (Heaslip) when she ran five furlongs down the chute in 59 3-ssec. The last four she covered in an amazing 45 2-ssec, the fastest time for the distance since the days of Yahabeebe and Malnbrace.

It is no secret that Idyll Show is pacy. Just as satistory as the time was her true run over the crossing. When

she won last Saturday’s Wellesley Stakes she gave R. J. Skelton trouble from the start

almost to the line, but yesterday she ran quite straight. Greenstone (Cullen) wa« to run a mile with Bluffing and Practice, but he broke some six lengths clear and made a separate trial of ft. He took Imin 41 2-ssec for the mile, running the first half in 49 2-ssec, and the first five furlongs in Imin 3sec. It was not surprising that he steadied to cover the last half in 52sec and three in 38 2-ssec. His trainer, D. Jones, is still seeking a suitable rider for the gelding. Bluffing (Marsh) and Practice (Hughes) returned a satisfactory trial by running a mile in Imin 43 3-ssec, finishing with similar fractions to Greenstone’s—s2 l-ssec, and 38 3-seec. SOUND RUN

Proud Chief (Hughes) ran an excellent trial when he beat Choucuana (Cullen) by two lengths over a mile in imin 41 4-ssec. The last half in 50sec and three in 36 2-ssec. Choucuana passed the mile two lengths clear, but Proud Chief gradually made his ground and pulled away from her in the straight. Glamis Lad (Hampton) went more easily over a mile in Imin 47)sec, but still beat Ramlegh (Parsel) by a good six lengths. The last half took Glamis Lad 54jsec and the final three a faster 39|sec. The pace was very slow when they left the mile. Town Crier (Bell) gave away weight but went keenly with Every Post (Bastwood) over six furlongs, the last half mile in 48 4-ssec, and three furlongs in

SS 4-ssec. Every Post had threequarters of a length to spare, but it was a good gallop for Town Crier.

Red Carpet (Eastwood) finished a head in front of Cay Doctor (Hampton) over half a mile in SOaec. the last three furlongs in 36 3-ssec. Super Count (Bell) took 52 l-Ssec and SSsec.

Astrella (Marsh) and the promising hack, Leon (Hughes), finished together after running half a mile in a comfortable 50sec, the last three furlongs In 36tsec.

Udare (Cullen), which might be better for last week's race, took 51 4-ssec for the last tour of seven furlongs, running the final three in 38sec. Damar (Cullen) finished with 54 4-ssec and 36 2-ssec. There is now a chance that he will start in the Watkins Handicap.

Dario (Marsh) went easily from the mile but accelerated at the six, where he joined Worthy Son (Cullen) to cover the last four in 52 l-ssec. and three in SSsec. Titus (Marsh), started at the mile but worked along only over the last six furlongs. He covered the final half mile in 53sec and three in 3Ssec.

FINISHED CLEAR Wairlo (Dowling), comfortably beat Tassel and Mini Cherie (Eastwood) over halt.a mile in Richman (Bain) started at the six and joined Honey Queen (Marsh) near the four. They came from' there in 4» l-ssec, the last three furlongs ;ln 38 Babura (Heaslip) went alone and returned 50 4-Ssec and 36 4-Ssec. The stablemateo, Carioca (Eastwood) and Screened (Marsh, ran half a mile in 52 sec, the last three furiongq in 38 I*sseo Chubb (Heaslip) and Blue Anchor (Hughes), a strong matcieti prospect tomorrow, finished together after five furlongs, the last half mile In 52 1-Soec. and three furlongs in SSsec. Latin (Marsh) and Automatic (Dowling) started to run a sprint and became involved near the three with the hurdler Lord Chick (Beil), which was working an easy mile. Lord Chick finished on terms with Automatic, which ran The half mile in 49 l-ssec, and three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. Latin was some three lengths behind.

Aristoc Is Improving "The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Aristoc took the time honours at Awapuni yesterday morning when he ran a fast five furlongs on the plough in preparation for the Watkins Handicap at Trentham. Aristoc ha, Improved quickly of late and although he might derive further benefit from a race thia week is work suggests he will not be long in winning. On the plough, Aristoc was going strongly In front of Judy Durham at the end of five furlongs in imin 4sec. the last three in 38sec. This was fast time and Aristoc put plenty of dash Into the task. Judy Durham galloped well for a maiden. She is in the First Rimutaka Maiden at Trentham.

Royal Guest and Royal Rye ran five furlongs in Imin ssec. They went fast early then eased to run the last three in 41sec. Royal Guest is close to winning form and a good eSort in the hurdles last week suggests a chance In the opening event tomorrow.

Revival dashed over three furlongs In 37 2-ssec and was impressive. She is another in fine heart at present and she will be one of the better prospects in the Burnham Water Handicap.

Crown Law Improved “The Press** Special Service WANGANUI. The cla&sy gallopers, Crown Law and Brazil, looked much improved by their Wellington outings when they worked at Marton yesterday morning. On the course proper, with the pegs out 35 feet, Crown Law, under a good hold, was not troubled to register 62 2-ssec for five furlongs. Last season's dual Oaks winner, Brazil, had a lot in reserve over five furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec. She has been nominated for the Pearce Mile on Monday. Stars And Stripes, which will tackle the Trentham hack milers on Saturday, loafed over five in 64sec. A most impressive last-start maiden winner at Masterton, he is expected to give a good account of himself in th* Belmont Hack Handicap.
