Scots Out Of World Cup, Beaten By W. Germany

West Germany, beaten in the 1966 World Gup soccer final, yesterday became the ninth country to qualify for the 1970 finials in Mexico, by beating Scotland, 3*2, in a fluctuating group seven qualifying match in Hamburg.
The Germans hit back after J. Johnstone had put Scotland ahead in the third minute. K. Fichtel equalised in the thirty-seventh minute and G. Mueller made the score 2-1 for West Germany afte r6O minutes.
But Scotland refused to concede defeat and A. Gilzean
equalised in the 72nd minute. However, in a breakaway attack in the 80th minute, R. Libuda scored the winning goal. England, the holder, and Mexico, the host, qualified automatically for next year’s 16-nation finals, and have so far been joined by Sweden, Belgium, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, El Salvador and West Germany. Russia, fourth in the 1966
tournament, also looked set to qualify after beating Northern Ireland, 2-0, before a crowd of 100,000 in Moscow. G. Nodia and A. Byshovets netted the Russian goals which felled an Irish team ! lacking the mercurial brili liance of G. Best, who was , injured in an English League Cup game on Monday. ;. The Russians now need only to draw their last group I four game against Turkey to dinch their place in Mexico.
Play-off Likely Hungary moved closer to a group two play-off with Czechoslovakia by beating Denmark, 3*o. in Budapest Bene (2) and Szucs scored the goals which left Hungary two points behind Czechoslovakia and with an easy remaining game against the Republic of Ireland. East Germany sounded a warning to the group three favourite, Italy, by racing to a 3-1 victory over Wales in Cardiff. After a goal-less first half, Vogel and Nrenzel (2) shattered Welsh hopes by scoring three goals in nine minutes. East Germany lead the group by two points from Italy, which still looks best placed to qualify with home matches against Wales'and East Germany to come. Bulgaria In Draw
Bulgaria justified its favouritism to win group eight by forcing a one-one draw against the Netherlands in Rotterdam. Eenstra raised the Dutch hopes by opening the scoring in the thirty-sixth minute, but Bonev’s equaliser 22 minutes later ended Dutch interest in the competition. Bulgaria needs two points from its remaining away matches with Poland and Luxemburg to qualify. Results of other matches were:
