ENDOWMENT LANDS
‘Development Hampered’ (N.Z. Press Association) j WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. | Lack of security of tenure; and high rents had development of endowment: lands leased by farmers from' public bodies, Mr A. D. Dick (Nat, Waitaki) said in Parliament today. Mr Dick was specking during the second-reading debate on the Public Bodies Leases Bill, advocated the sale of all public body endowment lands to the Crown. Mr Dick said, however, that many public bodies preferred to retain their endowment Hands, and the bill would encourage better farming techniques on this land by providing security of tenure and a fair rent based on the productive capacity of the land. He said that some public bodies were now receiving more in interest on the capital from the sale of such land that! they had received from; rents.
Other bodies should look at the advantages of | selling their endowment j lands to the Crown, be said. 1 The bill was given a second reading.
