TRANSIT SCHEME
Finance Plan Rejected fN Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 21. The Auckland Regional Authority has rejected the Government's proposal for financing the sBom bus-rail rapid transit scheme. This was decided at a closed meeting of the authority last night, when it was estimated that the 14 local bodies on the route of the rail service would have to be levied another $2.9m a year to meet costs. This would mean a 15.8 per cent increase in rates j The authority will continue negotiations with the Govern-i ment for a better deal for financing the transit scheme The chairman (Mr T. H , Pearce), will write to the Minister of Works (Mr Allen), asking how soon the Government will meet representatives of the authority to discuss the issue.
