SYDNEY Speculative mining stocks firmed yesterday on the Sydney Stock Exchange as buyers returned after a day of heavy profit taking. However, some of the issues to lose failed to recover, while those that went against the easier trend went further ahead. Poseidon traded quietly, starting at 2700 c, but later regained last night's close and finished steady on the day. Some of the more expensive

nickel stocks showed signs of recovery. Oils were mixed, with loc, and some cheaper issues, including Ashburton and Target, improving, but Endeavour. Santos, and Genoa fell back.
